ParticipantMy suggestion is to insert special engineer units that have discounts on certain activities or able to do things regular engineers cannot:
1> Like fortification engineers that build, repair and improve forts for less cost than normal engineers.
2> Railroad engineers that build, repair and improve railroads ONLY.
Both these suggestions are based on actual units that existed in WWII.
Not sure this suggestion is possible without Vic’s help.

ParticipantThis would be cool and add another level of the game… but can you damage rail?

KeymasterI would love to be able to split up abilities as to what engineers can build, or even have discounts on building one thing or another. Sounds like a great idea. Not something I can implement however.
I would love to have some sort of limit on the amount of railroad that can be built in a single turn. In normal ATG this is done by making rails cost raw too. So you cannot just build infinitely many. I am unsure how many kilometers (or miles) railroad engineers would be able to build in the span of 4 weeks.
I still cringe when I see people building roads everywhere, just because they have engineering points to spare. Maybe I should make a new resource, … call it Build Points… make everything Engineers can build cost some of those.
Also wish I could make people able to choose what kind of road/rail they’d want to build. In theory I can, by making a card, switching the type, when played… but, that seems like a little too roundabout for me.

ParticipantOf course anything an engineer unit can build it can destroy…come to think of it any unit should be able to destroy things that have been built. Engineer units should just be more effective at destroying things.’
I think building forts and railroads should cost raw materials. And building improved roads should also cost raw materials. Dirt roads should not. I haven’t thought about it but how long did it take the engineers to build the Transcontinental Railroad just after the Civil War. The Western portion took longer because it was built through mountains. That might be a good starting point to figure out how many miles the railroad engineers could build in a single month.
